For help please e-mail the BIBS Mailing List

A multimedia computer connected to the Internet with at least 100 Kbs bandwidth is required to view BIBS programs. Some programs are broadcast and recorded using the Internet MBone technology and some programs are recorded using Real Networks technology. Software is available for both technologies:

  • Internet MBone
  • Real Networks (RealPlayer G2 for Windows, Macintosh and Linux)
    • For Windows and Macintosh, download the RealG2 Player.
    • For Linux, download the Linux G2 Player (alpha 1). This is pre-release software, and does contain bugs. We cannot support it in any way. (But it works pretty well, even under FreeBSD's Linux emulation!) Just run the g2a1_linux22.bin file to install it.
Macintosh clients are available for the Internet MBone, but they are less reliable.

BIBS/Mash Software

The Unix and Windows clients are written using the
Mash Distributed Multimedia Toolkit developed at UC Berkeley.

The following links provide further information and instructions for downloading and installing the client software.

  • System Requirements

  • Macintosh Download - A Macintosh package is being acquired. It is likely to be several months before it is ready for use with BIBS.

  • Windows NT Download

  • Windows 95/98 Download - The mash release for these systems does not work yet. Watch this space for more information about the release.

  • Unix Download

You can test that the plugin is installed by following this link:
